Technical Bulletin

September 29, 2016; Updated December 13, 2016

What is happening?

Apple recently released macOS Sierra 10.12; however, Pearson does not currently support it for use with installable TestNav apps. This is due to a potential test security issue with a feature introduced in these versions.

Pearson is working closely with Apple to enable TestNav support of macOS Sierra in the near future.

UPDATE - December 13, 2016

Pearson has added support with TestNav for kiosk mode testing for only the following:

  • macOS Sierra 10.12 only with Firefox ESR 45
  • iOS 10.2

Customers may add support for these operating systems at varying times.

What does this mean?

Until Apple and Pearson determine a resolution to this issue, TestNav will display an error and the student will not be able to test, if a user/student starts the TestNav app on macOS Sierra (also applies to practice tests).

The current supported versions are listed on the TestNav System Requirements page.

What do I need to do (and how do I do it)?

Schools using Mac computers for testing with TestNav this Fall should not upgrade their devices to macOS Sierra 10.12.

If you have already taken the update, contact Apple Support.

Pearson will notify customers when macOS Sierra is fully supported with TestNav.
