This is one of the tasks to be done During Online Testing

Some features are only available to some user accounts. Each user account has a user role(s) and permissions associated with it. These permissions control the data the user can view and actions the user can perform. If you do not see a specific feature, your account is not configured to access it. See Manage Users for more information.

Your testing program will provide information identifying user roles and what each is permitted to do and see.

This page describes how to manage an online test session. Getting an online test session ready for testing is a multiple-step process.

Before a student can take a test in TestNav, perform the following tasks in the chronological order (see table below for details):

  • Create an online test session
  • Prepare an online test session
  • Start an online test session
  • Unlock the student test.

When the testing is complete you can stop the test session. If needed, you can restart a stopped session.

Session Statuses

Session statuses vary depending on where you are in the testing process, as shown below.

Initial status of a session, when a session is created.
A session is in queue for form and seal code assignment.
All forms and seal codes have been assigned to the session.
A session is active and the students are testing.
All testing is complete and students cannot be added to the session.

Create an online test session

A session must be created before testing can start.

You can create an online test session two ways:

  • Complete Details with Create / Edit Test Session Tasks.

Click here to view how to create a session...
    1. From Testing > Sessions, click the Select Tasks drop-down and select Create / Edit Test Sessions. Click Start.

    2. Click Create Session and enter the required details. When creating a test session, if at least one proctor caching computer is configured, you must select a proctor caching computer. If you set test session dates and times, the system will not use them to limit when sessions can be started. The data is only used to help you with planning.

    3. Click Create
After a session is created, a Password box becomes available. This box contains the password that will be included in the student testing ticket and that the student will use to log in to the test (along with a unique User ID). This password helps ensure that students can access only the test assigned to them in this session. You can use the instructions to see and change this password as described in View or Edit an Online Test Session

  • Using Student File Import.

Click here to view how to create a session...

Some programs provide an option to create a session via Student Registration import. Refer to your administrator to check whether you have this option.

To create an online test session using file import, follow these steps:

From Setup > Import / Export Data, select Student Registration Import  file. Click Process.
The student file should specify the name of the session to be created. If a session is already created and has a status of Not Started, you can add more students to that session by importing the student file.

  • Test forms define the contents of online tests. A test form is a collection of test questions grouped together to measure a student's understanding of a subject. One or multiple test forms are created, each being a variation of the test to be administered, and then these forms are associated with a test. Test forms are created by test content specialists and stored on a content server.
