Programs can use the TestNav online testing platform in three forms—in a browser (practice or non-secure tests only), through a desktop app, or through a mobile app.

The overall platform takes two major TestNav upgrades a year—in winter and in summer. Pearson coordinates a timeline for pushing an upgraded TestNav version with each program, depending on testing sessions. At the coordinated time, the upgrade pushes to your program without any action required. If a student did not sign out of a device, the next student to use the device may need to sign in again to begin testing with the latest version.

TestNav desktop and mobile apps release only once a year, with all winter and summer overall platform upgrades included.

  • The mobile app releases also typically do not require any action.
  • Desktop apps require reinstallation.

Unless your program turns off the auto-update feature, the following OSs take the upgrade automatically, without any action required. If your program disables auto-update, you must re-download the TestNav app from the appropriate app store.

  • Android

  • Chrome

  • iOS
  • Windows (from Windows Store)

You must download the upgraded TestNav desktop app from download.testnav.com for the following OSs:

  • macOS
  • Linux

You can also download the TestNav desktop app for Windows from download.testnav.com; however, Pearson recommends using the TestNav app from the Windows Store (see above) for ease of maintenance.

Patch Updates

Throughout the year, Pearson also pushes minor patch updates to TestNav as needed. These minor updates do not require any action from your program.
